It is with great sadness that we announce that San Francisco Giants Legend and Hall of Famer Willie Mays passed away peacefully this afternoon at the age of 93.

Willie Mays served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-53.

Willie Mays accomplished it all.

On or around #Juneteenth, 1934, Becky Elzy and Alberta Bradford sang 10 spirituals for American ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax, who recorded them. Both women had been born in slavery and emancipated after the Civil War. One of the songs they sang that day was "Free at Last." 🧵

Opal Lee, the 97-year-old Texan known for her push to make Juneteenth a national holiday, was given the keys Friday to her new home, which was built on the same tree-lined corner lot in Fort Worth that her family was driven from by a racist mob when she was 12.
