Locational pricing (aka zonal pricing or regional pricing) is the only policy at the government’s fingertips that once implemented will cut bills for everyone overnight without public spending - and will continue to do so cumulatively as we transition to low cost renewables.

We desperately need locational pricing- cheaper electricity everywhere- instead of "being paid to not generate" being a business model. Of course, we need new Grid but locational pricing will reduce the amount we need, make it much more efficient, and cut electricity costs.

"People are looking out the window at these turbines and not seeing the benefit" The crazy world of Britain's blunt and inefficient electricity market Companies get paid to build wind farms which get turned off half the time - instead of building them where there's actual need

It's even crazier they turn them off when it's windy - but you're still paying a fortune for electricity. They could sell it cheap instead. Like any normal business. The marginal cost is zero....

Locational pricing- not just a workaround for islands, but a solution for the whole nation Stop paying generators to turn off ZERO MARGINAL COST power, and instead sell it locally cheaply Locational pricing means we'd build what we need where we need it & cut bills for everyone

I honestly think noone understands more about energy than Michael Liebreich so it's an absolute pleasure to chat with him... cleaningup.live/the-kraken-wak…

I was in China last week and it was remarkable. In the West, we just don't appreciate the scale of China's investment in science & tech. The solar & wind manufacturers we met spend 7-11% of revenue on R&D. This is a bit of the R&D campus of a co which employs 100k people in R&D

I really hope the government delivers an elegant solution - locational pricing - rather than a bodge to placate incumbent interests. Locational pricing will mean we build stuff where it's needed, and bring prices down in every region.

More of Huawei's 30,000 person R&D campus... As well as "Prague", there's "Oxford", "Heidelberg", "Bologna", "Windermere", "Fribourg", "Paris", "Granada", "Luxembourg". And a library of 110,000 books. And a metro - with three lines, to get around. *Postcard not a love letter!*
