I again call upon National Congress of American Indians & President Fawn Sharp to denounce the atrocious Indigenous human rights abuse suffered by The Nooksack 306. NCAI should honor its roots as a civil rights organization, denounce domestic Indigenous human rights abuse & square itself on the right side of history.
This fact is about to be definitively established: The Nooksack 306 were never disenrolled; they still belong.
The world will now know this undeniable truth: The Nooksack 306 kinfolk belong. Always have. Always will.
Congrats to our attorney Gabe Galanda, Indigenous Rights Lawyer!
We we have called upon the White House to cause the 21 unlawful evictions to be immediately halted. Please retweet in support of The Nooksack 306 human rights. cc: Senator Patty Murray Sen. Maria Cantwell Rep. Suzan DelBene Secretary Deb Haaland Bryan Newland Secretary Marcia L. Fudge U.S. Attorney Nick Brown
Nooksack politicians have persecuted every The Nooksack 306 who has challenged their authority. They fired George Adams, the tribe's Lhéchelesem language teacher. They cyber-harassed & recalled Carmen Tageant. They fired Tribal GED teacher Debbie Alexander & disenrolled her family.
2/ "Tageant was not among the [The Nooksack 306], but she was outspoken in her support of them. 'When my picture was placed on Facebook, I was standing up vocally' against disenrollment, she says." Carmen was later recalled, illegally, by tribal politicians. crosscut.com/equity/2020/02…
3/ Dr. David Wilkins: “Nooksack ha[s] degraded into a state of an anarchic nation. Tribal politicians have created such a despotic social and political climate that Tribal citizens are seeking political asylum in other Native nations.” The Nooksack 306 lastrealindians.com/news/2019/8/13…
"Attorney Gabe Galanda, who is representing those [The Nooksack 306] facing eviction, said the tribe’s response to the U.N.’s appeal was itself full of misinformation and an attempt to minimize the 'magnitude” of UN Human Rights' involvement." indiancountrytoday.com/news/the-wrap-…
Nooksack police are back at The Nooksack 306 doorsteps. Tonight Olive Oshiro, age 86, was served with a 14-day notice to vacate.
Meanwhile Nooksack bans any right to counsel for those The Nooksack 306 facing eviction--meaning even counsel of their own expense and choosing. Those of us in law or politics take for granted how impossible it is to fend off eviction without help from legal counsel.
Nooksack Tribal cops returned to The Nooksack 306 homes tonight to serve Tribal Court eviction papers, despite two Washington State Supreme Court orders enjoining eviction activity. Nooksack continues to answer to no authority.
