It’s official! Mark your calendars now. I’ll be talking at the Northwest Flower & Garden Festival at the Convention Center in Seattle in February, 2025. It’s not too early to start planning to attend this fabulous show now!

How do you know when it's time to give your #WollemiPine more space? 🌲🤷 Pines are such slow growing plants that they can stay potted for over 20 years before outgrowing their home!

If you were awoken by a strange sigh from the heavens early this morning, that was the autumnal passing over our heads in the northern hemisphere at 05:21 PDT. Fall’s officially here. Congratulations to friends in the southern hemisphere. Spring’s there instead.

What’s flowering at The Fuchsietum? Symphyotrichum novae-angliae. This New England aster is even taller than it was last year. It’s reached almost 8 ft! No idea of the cultivar other than possibly being ‘Steroidal’. 🤣

What’s flowering at The Fuchsietum? Fuchsia ’Cardinal has large scarlet blossoms elegantly held on long arching branches on a bush that can get 4-5 ft tall (120-150 cm). From the celebrated Evans & Reeves Nursery of Santa Monica, Calif. in 1938.

What’s flowering at The Fuchsietum? Dahlia ‘Lavender Ruffles’. It’s blooming late. But I didn’t get to planting it until late. Might have had something to do with it. I’ll move it. It’s turned out to be too tall here. And, no, that’s not a tiny child’s hand. It’s really that big.

Slowly but surely, getting closer to the weekend🐢✨ Who’s ready to unwind and shell-ebrate? Fun fact💡During the dry season, when their usual grazing spots dry up, Aldabra giant tortoises switch to munching on fallen leaves from shrubs and trees🍂 📷Indian Ocean Tortoise Alliance

What’s flowering at The Fuchsietum? Fuchsia ‘Tarra Valley’. This unusual little upright combines two species native to New Zealand with one from Central America—F. x colensoi (F. excorticata x F. perscandens) x F. splendens.

Former Twitter says it’s 15 years today. Most of my time has been phenomenal & I’ve meet so many interesting people. But when Leon abolishes blocking, that’s the last straw. Won’t put up with his crazies. I’ll download my archive & say adieu. Thanks, all! You’ve been great.

You may not know that The Fuchsietum is also a tortoise sanctuary. Hidden among the fuchsias are the world’s favorite reptile. Watch your step!

What’s flowering at The Fuchsietum? Fuchsia ‘Roualeyn’s White Gold’. From Roy Sinton at Roualeyn Nursery in Trefriw, Conwy, North Wales. Roualeyn’s tremendous fuchsia displays are a fixture at flower shows in the UK and always garner gold!
