Most of these attackers, killers, whether the target be a Dem or MAGA, do not seem to have coherent political agendas, sure they mouth slogans but no serious manifesto of thought. I think it is more a question of mental illness inflamed by an every more irrational US culture.

The problem with lying that "China is paying the tariffs" is that it is so obvious, so clear, and so painfully in your face that every day Americans are the ones paying these extortion fees, that it's just not going to work. Nobody is this stupid.
