We care for this 14,000 year-old internationally rare habitat, a tufa-forming alkaline spring fen, together with the calcareous grassland of Rock Edge.

Great to have some new volunteers for our regular Wednesday morning work party today! Same jobs as usual though, snapping reed to discourage growth, digging out nettles and creeping thistles, and hand pulling Michaelmas daisies. And scything of course. Always more scything to do!

@Schlumpfpilz Judy Webb NearbyWild #RewildTheEarth @TwigEye Well, lush is one word for it. Many of us feel 'overgrown' is another! Two months without being able to work on it has let some of our more thuggish plants grow a bit too much, though we'll get back on top if it all -- at some point!

@Schlumpfpilz Judy Webb NearbyWild #RewildTheEarth @TwigEye I guess we all have different ideas of what it 'should' look like, with one woman earlier in the week saying she thought it was like the Garden of Eden! Our emphasis on short though is just for things like reed, and some grasses, to let more of our rarer plants thrive.
