I completely agree! I have a strong sense of vocation, but none of us signed up to the “ultimate sacrifice” or any other unhelpful names for dying at work. It’s an Occupational Health issue and should be seen as such, like deaths falling off ladders on building sites.

Having these extra nurses in the ICU to help out makes the numbers look good when we are at triple capacity, but the skill mix is unsafe. You cannot learn critical care skills in a one day training session. The ICU nurses are rushed off their feet dealing with this.
