Will sea-level rise destabilise the legal status of islands, causing a loss or reduction of their maritime zones? In this blog post, I draw on State practice to argue that if islands become uninhabitable, loss of 'island' status is not a fait accompli.

Great to see this engagement on legal stability and maritime zones, and a renewed focus on the interpretation of UNCLOS for addressing questions of sea-level rise.
