The McAbee #Fossil Beds are known for their abundance & diversity of lovely plant, insect & fish that lived in a lake bed setting 52-53 million yrs ago. The beds are 30 metres of shale in the Eocene #Kamloops Group. The fossils are preserved as impressions & carbonaceous films.

The coiled images of ancient Goniatite shells - preserved as fossils over 300 million years ago and, more recently, exposed to the air again by the action of the Atlantic ocean. County Clare, Ireland.

Happy #WorldOceansDay, everyone! Today is the day for us to celebrate and honor our oceans. 🌊🐋 Did you know that the ocean covers 71% of the Earth’s surface? It also holds about 96.5% of all Earth's water — that's a volume of 320 million cubic miles! Living in all of this

#FossilFriday Slighty young for this grant, but check out this pyritized Silurian trilobite (Calymene tristani) from France! This specimen was originally part of UC Berkeley's College of Mines collection before moving to UCMP when it was established in 1921. UC Museum of Paleo

Casually having Science Magazine cover the work myself, Imran Rahman, Allison Daley and many others published in The Royal Society that explored Anomalocaris biology. Short and long: This Cambrian animal did not eat trilobites. Mic. Drop. 10.1126/science.adj5609

Early #FossilFriday - Here is a slab with 10 sponges and a totally enigmatic organism (top right corner), all from the mid-Cambrian Marjum of Utah. These are large individuals (c. 2-3 cm long) of a new sponge species that shall be officially described in the months to come.

Last week Federico Fanti & I visited the ‘Superduck’ locality that produced the type of Probrachylophosaurus to run a section. One of our big #SADP2023 finds is a braincase of this taxon from just across the river in Alberta (!) Great to see my old buddy Mark Goodwin too
