Great week with the UC Science | Te Kaupeka Pūtaiao Geol352 students mapping the Kaikōura Peninsula. We were treated to views of whales, snowy mountains, rainbows and baby seals! Always enjoy watching the students work out the scales of folding and faulting in the rocks! University of Canterbury Geology | Pūtaiao ā-nuku

Geol352 were pretty lucky to map the geomorphology at this awesome site along the Hope Fault. They also measured offset features, which got the students thinking about about uncertainty and slip rates. 📏👩🏼🔬 UC Science | Te Kaupeka Pūtaiao University of Canterbury @camillapenney

"How does the 300,000 year long synthetic earthquake catalogue compare to the ~4,000 year long geological record of historic earthquakes in the Wellington region, and can it help us fill in the gaps?" asks PhD student Jade Humphrey of University of Canterbury. #GSNZ2022

A huge shout out to all our volunteers and trappers that make our mahi possible! 🪤🐀🌿 Another year of support from Predator Free New Zealand Trust will enable us to continue our efforts of creating spaces for our native species to thrive and inspire future generations to make a difference!

The NZ Paleoseismic Site Database is now published. 🎉🎉 Huge team effort compiling records of slip rate, earthquake timings and single event displacements from around Aotearoa. pubs.geoscienceworld.org/ssa/srl/articl… Nicola Litchfield @Aotearoa_uNZipd Earth and Environment | Te Kura Aronukurangi
