We’ve written a delightful blog about the excellent 1980s TV chiller #HammerHouseOfHorror! Be warned though, it’s not for the faint of heart. abovethelore.co.uk/blog/hammer-ho…

“Stop calling me ‘Tone’! Let's have a little respect for the principal. It isn't right for subsidiary members of the cast to address the principal with diminuatives. Wilfred Hyde White doesn't allow his bit players to call him ‘Chalky’…” Happy 100th Birthday to Tony Hancock!

We all know how séances work. At no point do spirits ever volunteer any information about the ‘other side’ that might actually be useful or interesting. Why? Clearly, they’re not allowed. It’s all very harsh on the working mediums — who are scrupulously honest people.

Phrenology gained popularity in the 19th century. It involved measuring bumps on the skull to predict personality traits. Queen Victoria even had her children’s heads read. Though, was pretty reluctant to give details of findings. Presumably, because they were evil?

Knight of the living dead. In 14th-century France, getting an axe in the head was a real wind-up. Hence this fallen knight on the battlefield looks pretty ticked-off about it! He’s probably wondering if he’s still got the receipt for the chainmail. Because it does nothing.

The Szondi test is a nonverbal projective personality test developed by Hungarian psychiatrist Léopold Szondi in 1935. It consists of eight photographs depicting people with ‘disturbed’ personality types. Participants were asked to choose the two images they like most.

Reading The Ghosts Of Borley by #PaulTabori and #PeterUnderwood. Good book, but the spellcheck down at #britishlondon does seem to have unfortunately rendered Harry Price’s forename as ‘Hairy’ throughout.

A surveyor taking photographs at Park Prewett Asylum in 1992, took this picture of the empty courtyard — and was shocked to discover an entire ghostly class of schoolgirls had appeared in her picture. This may be the most audacious instance of supernatural photobombing ever.
