We are deeply disturbed by the lengths to which members of Kosovo’s ruling party, Vetevendosje, are willing to go — most recently MP Dimal Basha’s false claims about the origin of Pavol Szalai from RSF — following Kosovo’s ranking of 99th in the RSF Press Freedom Index.

I was glad to meet Xhemajl Rexha and Flutura Kusari this morning for a briefing on the 🇽🇰 media environment. Kosovo should be proud of its democratic track record, but recent setbacks in the environment for free, independent and fearless journalism are cause for concern.

Ambassador Antonini, together with Quint and EU representatives, met yesterday with Flutura Kusari and Xhemajl Rexha to discuss current challenges to media freedom in Kosovo.

Flutura Kusari from European Centre for Press and Media Freedom on SLAPPs: these threats are emptt and legally groundless, yet highly effective: they force journalists to hire lawyers, devote time to legal defence, and can seriously disrupt - sometimes irreparably - their journalistic work.
