Kudos to the FT for getting the union perspective on AI tools, and not stopping with the usual consultant and economist takes. Automation doesn't just displace tasks, it intensifies labor effort. And increased productivity does not automatically translate to higher wages.

If I was in the Senate my first question to Howard Lutnick would be ‘so when you bought the townhouse next door to Jeffrey Epstein, in a deal brokered by Jeff’s own brother, how many times did you see Trump there and is that why you held a fundraiser for him there in May ‘19?

Top ICE officials told agents to “turn the creative knob up to 11” and arrest more people—including so-called “collaterals” with no warrants, no charges, and no criminal record. “If it involves handcuffs, it’s worth pursuing.” This isn’t law enforcement—it’s racialized

For years we've heard from the right about "welfare queens" and other so-called "freeloaders" pulling one over on the government. But actually, it's the wealthy who are the real freeloaders — pulling one over on us all by skirting their taxes. Where is the outrage over that?

evan loves worf I keep asking for someone to show the single best example of the fraud, waste or abuse he has found in government. Something that makes us all say DOGE was worth it. Anybody? Anything?

This is funny/infuriating for several reasons. A) Callas himself is a conservative, former Paul Ryan staffer. B) None of the sources he mentions are progressive. Most are non-ideological (TPC, JCT, YBL), and two are clearly right-leaning (Tax Foundation, Penn Wharton).

James Surowiecki That account has just been engagement farming. Yesterday was "grocery bill was $100 for 8 essential items!" and no food in the cart— which you're supposed to point out so it 📈 We're getting stupider because the alg boosts stupid.

A nearly 90% funding cut proposed by the Trump administration would likely shut down and devastate the 37 tribal colleges and universities created to serve the students disadvantaged by the nation’s historic mistreatment of Indigenous communities. propublica.org/article/tribal

James Surowiecki Wallstreetapes is one of the stupidest people on this site. He thinks pilots should be "held" for crimes against humanity for leaving vapor trails.

Never before have I seen a combination of photo and headline that so clearly have to be—on some very deep level—*fucking kidding*, and yet both the items below, photo and headline, are apparently 100% serious

Not a word from FBI Director Kash Patel about the Nazi group here in Washington state who attacked a military base to steal weapons, hitting a soldier in the head with a hammer. They've been selling military weapons online for years and have a thousand followers on Instagram. 1/

"No one wants to take healthy food off a family's table, we just want to stop people from buying soda and candy." Sure, man. Whatever you say.

I wonder if the DOGE boys can find out how much money the government wasted trying to deport this waitress, who had been here 20 years and has 3 kids who are U.S. citizens, doesn't seem very efficient nytimes.com/2025/06/04/us/

Goodbye call center jobs. A new achievement solves the uncanny valley of voice AI. Time to first token is 176 milliseconds, and accuracy is now 99.2% — a level that exceeds human performance in many customer service scenarios. Over 70% of people can't tell it's not human.

(enticing private capital to invest with subsidies) was never up to the task of meeting our supply needs, continues to push for public investment + policies that *discipline* capital into increasing supply (including antitrust and mandates).
