(2/4) The current PhD stipend is due to increase from £15,609 to £16,062 for the 2022/23 year. A 2.9% increase. That’s simply not enough. Already, based on a 37.5 hour week, PhD students stipend would be ≈£8.20 per hour come September. That’s £1.30 BELOW national living wage.

Just published in nature! “Enhanced ocean oxygenation during Cenozoic warm periods” w/ @AMG_lab, @kast_emma & more Using N isotopes in foraminifera, we found that the ocean’s oxygen deficient zones contracted during two periods of Cenozoic warmth: nature.com/articles/s4158… (1/5)

Climate change is not only driving up ocean temperatures, it is also stripping the seas of oxygen. Fish are already moving to new waters in search of oxygen, and scientists warn that future oxygen loss poses a grave threat to marine life. e360.yale.edu/features/as-oc…

If you are at #AGU23 and are a #GDGT enthusiast, please stop by at the #PP33 Oxygen Dynamics session AGU Paleo Section to watch my pre-recorded talk. We propose a new proxy "MOB" that could track deep ocean O2! PP33-4 | West 3022 | 4:42-4:52 PM PST I will be there virtually!

Just published in Science Magazine ! Our new study shows an oxygen increase in the tropical subsurface ocean during the PETM, reconstructed by foraminifera-bound nitrogen isotopes (FB-d15N) and a foraminiferal body size model (FS-pO2). science.org/doi/epdf/10.11…
