As we discuss incarceration's human toll, we must consider prosecutors' power to correct unjust convictions and extreme sentences. The Sentencing Project's Becky Feldman, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez's Charles Linehan, and FAMM Foundation's Bryan Widenhouse join us to discuss post-conviction justice.
Unnecessary entry into the justice system for low-level misdemeanors comes with high costs – both to people charged & the public as a whole. This morning, we're glad to welcome Children's Museum of Manhattan's Leslie Bushara, Human Rights Watch's Sutina Green, UC Irvine's Steven Green, and National Black Women’s Justice Institute (NBWJI)'s Dr. Sydney McKinney for a conversation about how prosecutors can better consider and address incarceration's impact on families and communities.
Thanks to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez Eric Gonzalez and Jill Harris for kicking off our day by discussing innovations in Brooklyn that show how we can create safer communities by embracing smart alternatives to incarceration, restorative justice strategies, and post-conviction justice processes.
We’re excited to bring together an inspiring group of #21stCenturyProsecutors over the next couple of days to discuss new ideas to improve our criminal legal system, reckon with the impacts of the system, and promote public safety for all. Follow along for updates as we go!
