While most eyes have been diverted down the corridor at the Burke trial, the Supreme Court delivered this morning a very significant (and very surprising) judgment, holding that the limitation of the Seanad franchise to NUI and TCD is unconstitutional. Judgment available shortly

I'll be speaking at this excellent conference tomorrow, discussing recent developments in housing law. In particular, I'll be talking about the impact of the Clare County Council v McDonagh judgment in lower courts.

It was a privilege to be invited to give evidence before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Assisted Dying this morning, alongside Dr Louise Campbell. I discussed how the courts have approached issues in end of life decision making, as well as consent and decision-making capacity.

My good friend Conor Crummey has a fantastic new paper (forthcoming in the IJSJ) entitled 'Unconstitutional Evictions'. It explores the moral underpinnings of Art. 40.5, and argues for a robust application of it in private eviction disputes. Read here: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…
