Most hydrogen is still produced via steam methane reforming (SMR), which emits ~10 kg of CO₂ per kg of H₂. We explore a different pathway: splitting methane directly into hydrogen and solid carbon — without emitting CO₂.

The Role of Structured Reactors in Catalytic Cracking Traditional catalytic reactors can suffer from uneven heating and limited scalability. In STORMING, we’re working with structured reactors designed for better heat distribution, improved gas-solid contact, and scalability.

Unlike CO₂ emissions, the carbon produced through methane cracking is solid — and potentially valuable. In STORMING, we’re studying how to control the morphology and purity of this carbon to produce carbon nanomaterials suitable for energy storage applications.
