nature news just published a story about the implications our preprint showing how vulnerable results are to analytic choices. Check it out here! nature.com/articles/d4158…

So honoured to have this story coming out about our work. If results vary so much according to who analysed the data, we need to be a bit more careful about how we conduct and interpret research

“journals can do more to make it easier for other researchers to access all the materials they need [to check the veracity of data], but also to create a culture where we understand that just because something passed peer review doesn’t mean that’s the end of the scrutiny” - me

"Scientists are not born, they are made" Our latest ep features the MIT historian of physics (and physicist) Prof David Kaiser chatting about how the training of scientists can shape science in significant ways and other great stuff! thehpspodcast.buzzsprout.com/2180146/137570…

How many ecologists does it take to get the same results? A recent paper by Dr Hannah Fraser Fiona Fidler and a large number of other excellent scientists demonstrates variations in effect sizes due to analytical decisions in evolution and evolutionary biology nature.com/articles/d4158…

The 3rd SORTEE conference is TOMORROW. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about open science practices and to discuss the future of open, reliable, and transparent science in ecology and evolutionary bio!

Today Beth (Beth Clarke) gave a nice, intriguing talk about metaresearch and replication in Psychology research titled "Taking Snapshots of Current Practices in Psychology: A Metaresearch Perspective. Thanks for the wonderful talk!

Loving this post by Daniël Lakens about the latest podcast. So interesting to hear divergent views. I know many scientists really appreciate Phil Sci in practice, but clearly not all! Thanks for the shout out Daniel.

Read this. There is a lot of fear of too much criticism in psychology, talk of protecting ECRs from this threat, etc. What about protecting ECRs from the damage of being silenced or worse when they raise legitimate criticism of famous people’s work? Excellent piece by Zoé Ziani, Ph.D.

Very grateful to Carl Sciglitano for his insightful review of my short book on #OpenScience, just published in Metascience:  “Beyond data sharing in open science” doi.org/10.1007/s11016…  Note that the book, contrary to the review, is #OpenAccess!

"We get this instinct that true science must start from a firm foundation. Time and again that's what I see NOT happening in the practice of science. We start from where we stand. The foundation is never indubitable, it's provisional" Hasok Chang out now! thehpspodcast.buzzsprout.com/2180146/141399…

I am nervous about attending SPSP for the first time. If you’re going, please consider participating in our workshop so that the Tim Tams don’t go to waste
