why do I feel like I've watched an entire let's play of Veilguard at this point with all of the promo material they are putting out? 😩

When it comes to commercial project inquiries to artists, just let us know what your budget is. You're either willing to pay your maximum or you're not, and if not then change it bc it's not really your max. There IS always wiggle room but YOU should set your bar upfront.

The song and dance of trying to mindread and value a project from the artist's side is incredibly frustrating, and usually a big time waster for everyone. If you are hoping for a bargain, set what your max budget is then decrease by ~10-15% when reaching out.

Many artists will be willing to accept a little lower than what they would quote just like you might be willing to increase your budget a bit if you really want the artist and they say they need a bit more. If you two are way off you can part ways with minimal time wastage.

it's always this stressful bargain chasing going on without any negotiation with commercial inquiries. if your budget for an entire TTRPG book idea you have is $2000 then just let artists know before they spend an hour pricing out 30 illustrations to find out you're $15k shortπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

if you're worried your budget might be offensively low then maybe don't contact them at all, dude (or be brave and just do it?) and if you think your budget is too high and you'd like it for cheaper just start low. this is basic bartering.
