I feel Daniel Hannan is getting a lot of unfair press at the moment so here's something to balance it out, showing his keen mind and expertise in political analysis.

The Phillips Curve is one of the most important theories in neoclassical economics. It justifies increasing interest rates to reduce inflation and moves an economy away from full employment. But guess what? There is no real-world evidence to support it. Thread 1/9

Labour’s claiming the economy could have crashed if winter fuel payments for pensioners weren't cut. This is absurd. They might as well have claimed the markets would have crashed if Rachel Reeves had walked on the cracks in the pavement. The claim really is that stupid.

Russians weren't satisfied by beheading a 14 year old girl yesterday or by the 44 victims today in Kharkiv, now they've just sent ballistic missiles into an orphanage in Sumy.

Would the UK economy really have collapsed as Labour is saying if it had not cut the winter fuel allowance for most pensioners within days of coming into office, whilst announcing more more ‘pain’ to come? Of course it wouldn’t have done. A thread…..

Why I’ve been asking the Council to stop glyphosate spraying. I’m very grateful they’ve agreed for me to opt out but more needs to be done. Contractors talk about ‘slip and trip hazards & obscuring road signs and interfering with drainage’. This morning it took us just 20

Labour has said that not cutting the winter fuel payment would have caused a run on the pound and crashed the economy. Mental stuff from what is now a right-wing party of liars.

Has Wales fallen into the sea? The reason we ask is that there's no mention anywhere of which party Labour blames for the budget cuts in that part of the UK. There's a campaign in Scotland to blame the SNP for cuts to public services, but nothing in Wales. It's ceased to exist.

If stopping the Winter Fuel Allowance can save the economy, imagine what cracking down on the 50% profits the Energy Companies are making could do.

If Labour does not care about the votes of OAP who they just betrayed, they are highly unlikely to care about the votes of older women. Now if they all were millionaire donors... #Labour

In 2022 Labour FM Mark Drakeford said unplanned Welsh budget cuts were due to inflation eroding the block grant and the Tory Govt awarding public sector pay increases with no new money to Wales for the same pay awards. Why was Labour correct then but the SNP wrong now?

I know absolutely nothing about the Farming industry so I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. Listening to Farming Today, due to Brexit, UK farming is struggling. *Generous EU subsidies no longer available via CAP. *Fewer seasonal migrant workers available to harvest produce.

In 2021, we revealed the King secretly gave a CBE to a Saudi donor who paid millions in a deal brokered by royal aides Paying for an honour is a crime But The Met covered up the scandal, never investigating properly or speaking to the men at its heart—Charles and the Saudi 1/5

We cannot allow Labour to take power from a Scottish Parliament that will still stand up for the people of Scotland. Labour has a choice to make - either deliver that change and end austerity and work with the SG, or prove independence is the only way to deliver real change.
