USGS focal mechanism for M6.5 Idaho earthquake indicates strike-slip faulting, but has a large non double couple component (50%), so this might be a complex event. Borah Peak sequence to the East was normal faulting. earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ev…

Epicenter of today's #idahoearthquake placed on our Miocene and Younger Fault map (M-8)-ZOOMED IN. It falls close to the trans-Challis faults system and northern end of the Basin and Range. Thanks cmcfeeney for quick turn around.

After months of logistical planning and🤞we did it: hike in and build a raft for a 300+lb hydraulic power unit, snorkel/scuba for underwater samples,& have divers use a massive 3’ bar hydraulic saw at depth with ❌visibility to obtain the ultimate 🙌sample for paleoseismic🌲💍
