Phased-array hardware like this 384-element 5G station and the #Starlink user terminal will trickle down to #amateurradio eventually. Let's make sure it doesn't take 20 years.

This is apparently the latest improvement on the VICTS mechanical phased-array approach. Uses some kind of Moiré effect between a plane wave and a rotatable grid of scatterers. Needs a large PTFE PCB with lots of vias, or you can mill a waveguide. ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/91866…

Left sells for 6 €, right for 14 €. If I had to buy 100 of these for an array of PCB Vivaldi antennas, would the FR4 cutout be worth the extra cost ?

One step closer to what we'll need for next-gen #amateurradio experiments: inexpensive GHz clocks that all tick in lockstep with each other, within a few degrees of phase. Including catch-up after holdover. Anything off-the-shelf ?

#SatDump is impressive. How many ground stations would we need to capture all the unencrypted LEO and GEO Earth observation satellites 24x7 ? How much fiber bandwidth to share the data ? Why don't we have a free realtime digital globe yet ?

The #amateurradio community would welcome repurposed Starlink user terminals for QO-100 reception on-the-move at 10.5 GHz :-)

Meanwhile, this $40 dCSS/Unicable LNB can digitize and channelize the whole satellite TV IF band (dual-pol), frequency-shift 32 transponders, and regenerate a GHz-wide analog output. Presumably the linearity is good enough for all DVB modulations up to 32APSK.

"The beamformer knows where the incoming asteroids are, at all times. It knows this, because it knows where they aren't. By subtracting the hydrogen line background, where they aren't, from live images, where they may be, it obtains a diff-" No wait wrong dataset !
