Came across a visceral account o/t aftermath of Prestonpans I've not seen referenced. British trooper George Cranston took refuge in a gravedigger's house & was told of Jacobite dead lying in the church w/ fine linen & plaids over their bodies, w/ Highlanders 'howling over ym'.

The Battle of Glen Shiel #otd in 1719 ended the 'forgotten' #Jacobite Rising of that year. As historian Maggie Craig told Historia, it was "a dramatic moment in #Scotland’s history and several significant historical players were involved". Find out more: historiamag.com/1719-forgotten…

It's white Rose Day! What's best than this engraving of James III/VIII ? Reading my last monograph with Manchester University Press that has an entire chapter on how to party like a #Jacobite in #Lorraine on June, 10th! "To the King Over the Water!" #history

King James VI & I, the first monarch to rule over all of the British Isles, was born on this day in 1566. This gold £20 piece that was minted in Edinburgh in 1575 is the earliest coin to depict him. From the Hunterian collection.

This silver touchpiece was personally distributed by Bonnie Prince Charlie when touching for the King's Evil sometime between 1766 and 1788. During the ceremony, Charles would've hung this small medal around a scrofula sufferer's neck. From the Hunterian.
