There are two types of people in the Bay Area: those who have never been to our region’s only 24-hour Filipino restaurant, and those for whom Cafe Colma — the frenetic, perpetually crowded diner located inside a casino — is nothing short of a local icon.

“Some of the plans that I’m seeing (will) fill Chinatown with affordable housing. That’s not how you build a thriving community. It’s 2024. We should be able to foresee that's not how you treat a cultural minority district that was born through racism.”

Alameda has all the marks of an island. To get there, you have to use a bridge, tunnel or boat. Locals talk about going “on and off island.” Residents wear T-shirts that say 'Islander.” But it wasn't always separated from the mainland. Via Bay Curious

'We Indian people, we're already in a post-apocalyptic world,' said Deb Krol. 'Our apocalypse has happened...now we're trying to rebuild. Bc we already have this knowledge, we can be of use to the rest of the world when their apocalypse happens too.' Good piece by Joan Meiners 🐝🚴‍♀️:

Very interesting look at a USACE HQ pilot project in SF Bay to test what they hope is a less overwhelming approach to marsh restoration. The method is called shallow placement: dropping sediment & letting the tides move it around.

New Weather West post: Mild and slightly unsettled spring weather to continue across CA into May. But then what? My thoughts on how cool/mild start to summer/fire season might turn into something quite different by Aug/Sep. weatherwest.com/archives/39268

Many are asking: are we done with rain?

NO! We're getting a break for another week but Climate Prediction Center's 8 to 14 day outlook shows 'Above' Precip for much of the Bay Area.

ECMWF-AI Upper Air model is also hinting at a return to rain around then. If correct!
