New video: Asexual vs Sexual reproduction in an Artificial Life Biome.

Now I share the struggle of several ALife researchers in finding places where sexual reproduction helps...

What are good papers as an introduction to Origin of Life research? (New, old, doesn't matter). Bonus points if they show actual simulations!!

Have you ever done a dense grid search over neural network hyperparameters? Like a *really dense* grid search? It looks like this (!!). Blueish colors correspond to hyperparameters for which training converges, redish colors to hyperparameters for which training diverges.

What if we could learn cellular automata models of biological pattern formation directly from data? New preprint by Alex Richardson, Tibor Antal, Richard Blythe, and myself: arxiv.org/abs/2310.14809

New video is out! How does Biomaker CA work??
As usual, any feedback is appreciated. And what would you like to see next? Experiments? Hands-on tutorials? Both?

Introducing Neural Developmental Programs (NDPs)🧬🧠Instead of neural networks with fixed architectures, we allow neural networks to grow through a dynamic self-organizing process, inspired by how biological nervous systems develop👇

I started a YouTube channel focused on ALIFE. The first video is an introduction of Biomaker CA. I Hope you like it! And if you do, perhaps drop a like and/or subscribe :) youtube.com/watch?v=iqsGs-…

Better understanding the exceptional abilities of transformers is fundamental to making them more efficient and effective.

Our pre-print is a an in depth look at mesa-optimisation - the process we think underpins in-context learning - including results on language.

Here is my first SwissGL tutorial on YouTube! It shows how to create a variant of a beautiful animation by Artem Kirsanov starting from an empty browser window.

llama.cpp is a triumph of minimalism, that reminds us how useful it is to throw away the crust and start from the blank canvas. First dependencies serve you, then they slow you.
