Another WriteMentor success story! Very much looking forward to getting stuck in again this year. Well done to all successful applicants. My longlist constituted two thirds of submissions and my shortlist still had over a dozen.

This year for WriteMentor I'm very excited about working with Jo Dutton on her ingenious MG crime novel. (I will be sending feedback to those on my shortlist over the next week or so, but if you'd rather not hear just now, let me know.)

Wonderful launch for “Cosima Unfortunate” by Dr Laura Noakes last night. Even though she was my WriteMentor mentee in 2021 it was only the first time we’d met in person. It’s published next week and features an audacious heist, ingenious inventions and great disability rep.

Happy book birthday to Dr Laura Noakes! I'm beyond excited the rest of you can now read it and understand just why it leapt out at me at WriteMentor, leapt out at Lydia Silver at DA Children's Agency and leapt out at everyone at HarperCollins Children's Books. This is something very special indeed.

We've just published this wonderful guide to all the best film/TV locations in the UK that you can visit, from James Bond to Game of Thrones... plus that little seaside cafe outside Blackpool that ended up in Star Wars. One for movie trivia buffs as well as for day out ideas.

I’ve told many writers I’ve worked with to view building a writing career not as climbing a mountain but the Ten Peaks Challenge. I recommend all writers check out all of Lorraine’s wonderfully candid tweets under the same hashtag. The slog is worth it - but it’s still a slog.

Very pleased to be working with Natalie Rutherford on her hilarious middle grade novel Sheep Swap! Thanks to all who submitted - quality was high across the board and difficult to even draw up a shortlist. I'll be contacting a few people who were on it, but please bear with me.

Seeing Rob Reiner's Stand By Me aged 12 (the perfect age for it, though I understand it differently now) set me on course to being a writer. Before, I just wanted to be a detective or time traveller. Afterwards I realised being a writer meant I could be all the things. Sad day.
