This map gives you a rough sense of all the ways U.S. land is used. Much of U.S. land serves specific purposes, such as the 2 million acres devoted to golf courses or the 3 million acres for airports.bloom.bg/37XnVYh

Spring approaching is making me stir crazy! Soon, gorgeous warblers like this Blackburnian Warbler will decorate the trees like ornaments. I can’t wait!

If you haven’t heard, it’s earth day, so here’s a happy story! Remember that Screech-Owl I saved and gave to a raptor center for rehabilitation? It was recently released back into the wild at my home in Washington. Thanks to my mom for the pics, and good luck to this little guy!

Wood thrush were once abundant breeding birds in Southern Ontario, but have disappeared from many of the places they used to inhabit. This summer, a small crew of dedicated UofG ornithologists is studying them in the Region of Waterloo to try and find out why.

Check it out! All the hard work was well worth it. I learned so much through this process, and am thrilled to be able to meaningfully contribute to science. Special thanks to Joey Burant, Dr. Ryan Norris and Shannon Whelan for all their help along the way!
