You might have missed this yesterday… Home Office minister Lord Sharpe of Epsom admitted he doesn't know how many labour inspectors the UK has to monitor exploitation in the care sector, despite growing reports of abuse. Why do inspectors matter? ...

The people who spoke to me for this article, including Ismail, Zainab & Katherine*, are still looking for work. Katherine has less than a week before her visa ceases to be valid. If you're a care provider who can sponsor them, or if you know somebody who can, please get in touch

📢For the first time in England, a migrant worker on the Seasonal Worker Visa is taking her employer to the tribunal. Our client, a seasonal worker from Nepal, is suing the farm for unpaid wages and indirect discrimination, in what could be a precedent setting case.

Private school is around 10 THOUSAND A TERM. You CANNOT "make a few sacrifices"/"work hard" and have a spare THIRTY THOUSAND A YEAR <per child!> It is a complete myth and I cannot stand to hear it ONE MORE TIME. It's not "normal families working hard" and "prioritising education"

I’ll be at #LabourConference today till Tuesday, pressing ministers on how they intend to improve working conditions for migrant workers. This is going to be fun👋👋👋

Migrant workers are often too scared to speak out about their workers’ rights or participate in trade unions because their sponsor employer has control over their visa status. We need visa reform now! Thank you to Fran Heathcote & Mick Lynch for acknowledging this and we look

At risk of sounding desperate, it does feel like there’s a major gap in the coverage of Labour and donations, so… 🚨To all politics producers and bookers for radio/tv/podcasts: I am available to appear (remotely) on your show to discuss why the £4m donation from a hedge fund

As immigration enforcement increasingly moves from human to automated decision-making, transparency is the first step to ensuring that individuals going through migration systems can effectively challenge harmful decisions with life-changing consequences.

Incredibly poor turnout for a press conference with the Palestinian ambassador in London today. Told by organiser that all the main media outlets were invited. Some following on a livestream apparently but still…

It’s not surprising the boss of Cleanology isn’t best pleased with the Employment Bill… Earlier this year Cleanology was forced to pay up when a cleaner had to get Acas involved after they tried to pretend she'd run out of holiday leave. uvwunion.org.uk/en/news/2024/0…

In a previous job I was eligible for only statutory sick pay. When I fell ill with pneumonia, it meant that on top of the difficulty of being very unwell I was left with the stress of worrying about whether I'd be able to pay my rent that month

In a previous job I had to use a week of holiday leave while on 2 weeks of recovery after an operation. A week on statutory sick pay would have left me struggling to pay rent. The rate must go up or people will still risk returning to work too early/ getting in to debt
