I'm always intrigued by animation that adds camera shake, lens distortion, blown out lighting, searching focus & other artifacts of films shot in a camera. This is a great example. Check out the cinematography of: Love, Death & Robots: The Witness. bit.ly/LDARTW_HD

I'm a great lover of foreign movies and Korean filmmakers are some of the best in the world. Parasite was a great film. Did you know director Bong Joon-ho released two different versions? Check out the cinematography of Parasite (2019) in color and B & W bit.ly/Parasite_HD

Army of the Dead Things it's got going against it: ❎Bad cinematography ❎Worse writing ❎Unexplained blue glowing zombie eyes ❎Unexplained time travel (?) ❎More plot holes than you can count ❎Tig Notaro ❎Zombie by The Cranberries as the closing song ❎2.5 hours long

I saw a gorgeous shot in an episode of Love Death + Robots called "Pop Squad". I loved it so much I wanted to try to recreate. Everything modeled (except the car) and textured in Maya. Rendered in Redshift. Composited in Nuke. Autodesk Maya redshift3d Foundry Nuke

Generally speaking I've found that movies that mostly consist of people talking to each other in dark rooms are not very visually appealing. But Darkest Hour was one of the best looking films of 2018. Check out Bruno Delbonnel's amazing cinematography. bit.ly/DarkestHour_HD

I really appreciate when filmmakers try to do something truly different and shooting a film entirely on 6.5mm and 9.8mm lenses is a bold visual strategy. Does it work for this film? Judge for yourself. Check out the cinematography of Fallen Angels (1995) bit.ly/FallenAngels_HD

Making musicals into feature films is kind of hit or miss (West Side Story vs. Cats). Phantom of the Opera (2004) got generally good reviews. But regardless of what you thought of the film, it has some solid cinematography. Check out John Mathieson's work bit.ly/Phantom_HD

Not to be confused with Sylvain Chomet's excellent animated film of the same name, check out the cinematography of: The Illusionist (2006) bit.ly/TheIllusionist…

A phenomenal movie with not one but TWO great cinematographers. I think One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest has Jack Nicholson's best performance and that's saying something as he is one of the finest actors to ever live. Check out the cinematography: bit.ly/OneFlew_HD

Hero was a landmark movie for me. It changed the way I looked at cinema. It was the first time I was awed by cinematography. The first time I'd seen images so perfect in their composition, lighting and color. Check out Christopher Doyle's cinematography: bit.ly/Hero_HD

It's the movie the launched a thousand Hollywood franchises & yet, could you name the cinematographer? Check out Gilbert Taylor's work in what might arguably be the most culturally significant movie of all time. Check out the cinematography of Star Wars bit.ly/StarWars_HD

Does the name Peter Suschitzky mean anything to you? He's not exactly a household name even among films buffs but he shot The Empire Strikes Back (as well as most of David Cronenberg's films, ) Check out the cinematography of: The Empire Strikes Back bit.ly/Empire_HD

I couldn't recognize or hum a single bar of the music of any of the marvel movies or shows...except the music to Loki. I've said it before, but Natalie Holt's score for Loki is tremendous. It plays in my head 10x a day. I'm so excited to hear her music for the Obi Wan series.

How will AI affect you? I've been thinking a lot about this in regards to film, TV and entertainment. I wrote some things down: evanerichards.com/2024/thoughts-…

I've always been a big fan of Jean Pierre Jeunet's style and movies. I made a video breaking down some of my favorite things about what he does and how he does it. Give it a watch: youtube.com/watch?v=ynh6Yu…
