Kris Kristofferson was in the audience at Johnny Cash’s ABC show, the night Cash first sang “Sunday Morning Coming Down”. Execs had tried to get him to censor the line “Wishing Lord that I was stoned”. Cash refused, and sang it anyways. Performing it the way Kris wrote it.

This October marks the 60th anniversary of the release of Cash’s “Bitter Tears” album. Featuring songs dedicated to Native Americans. The best known tracks on the album being “Ballad of Ira Hayes” and “As Long As the Grass Shall Grow”. Which he’d perform live all through the ‘60s
