L'AXO, Reims 🇫🇷 This is a real turn up. Absolutely lovely low-key backstreet bar. From champagne by the glass to local IPA on draft at happy hour prices enjoyed over a board game. Rustic interior and tables on the street. Very fair prices. Friendly and social. This is it! 🍾🍻

L'Escale, Reims 🇫🇷 A lively dynamic beer bar - no, let's just say a pub. Excellent options for those into classic European styles, from Isidor on draft to Schlenkerla in the fridge. Friendly and inquisitive staff. Audience around 18-35, being Friday night. Successful venue! 🍻👍

#Brut, Epernay 🍾🇫🇷 From fun scuzzy Braník dives in Prague to tastings down the Avenue de Champagne. This is what we do! BIO focus, scrupulously fair prices given the location. Superb service. Nice terrace & ad hoc feel inside. The fact it isn't as clinical as others is welcome👍

Bureau des Pintes, Reims 🇫🇷 1st visit. A recent opening est. 2024. 4 beers from Pelican on draft, happy hour is €5 a pint even for 7.5% stuff. Two rooms, a little quiet right now. Electronic darts (welcome to mainland Europe) and motorcycle racing ephemera. 🍻👍

Le Clos, Reims 🇫🇷 Boom! 1st visit. It's a ruin bar, French style. Courtyard entrance, wonderful atmosphere and a lavish bar with chandeliers and bohemian decor inside. Fantastic place! €8 for a coupe de 🍾

Café du Palais, Reims 🇫🇷 Est 1930. Almost missed this fun grand café as it is closed soon and on Sun/Mon. Classical interior, mirrors everywhere, odd but successful mixture of 80s kitsch and belle epoque bohemia. This is the city "institution". La Lorette bieres on tap 🍻👍

Le Dropkick, Reims 🇫🇷 A bit of a bunker, it stretches a way in from the entrance. Punky hangout, less sporty than anticipated. Good and quirky beer selection, 12 taps with a lowlands focus. The list of shooters behind the bar tells a different story, probably last nights! 👍🍻

Quick vingt-cinq of Saison Dupont at L'Escale, Reims 🇫🇷 2nd visit of the trip. Excellent selection and a pacy, popular spot. Table footy, pinball and darts being utilised. Happy Hour price for 0.5l of 10.5% Imperial Stout: €7. Not too shabby!

I went to Szimpla Kert, a famous and vast 'ruin bar' in Budapest. Even when the central areas were busy, there were calm and colourful moments in the nooks and crannies. A sort of theme pub, I suppose, but my, what a theme.

Found in permanent residence at Bierwerk in Nuremberg 🇩🇪 where you can play Hammerschlagen to your heart's content. Alcohol 🍻, nails, hammers ⚒️. What can possibly go wrong? Then afterwards, a genteel game of Ring-the-bull 🐂

L'illustration, Lille 🇫🇷 Final bar before Eurostar. Did it! What a nice place. Character of an owner. XX Bitter on draft is amazing. Art Nouveau fittings and artsy décor in what is in essence a French take on a brown café. Lively, popular, mixed crowd. Just superb! 🍻😍👍

A beer synonymous with Antwerp. A glass of De koninck in brown cafe Den Engel on the Grote Markt. Outstanding views towards the Cathedral. The bar that was the inspiration for the original Den Engel, St Edward Street, Leek.

The Woodman, Digbeth will be reopening its doors to the public at 12noon today! Lovingly restored by John Brearley who also rescued the award-winning Swan & Railway, Wigan in 2019.
