In 2012, this pub sold to a developer who wanted to convert to “much needed” housing. He claimed it simply wasn’t viable. The locals, Hackney Council and Planning Inspectorate disagreed. And saw him off 💪🏻 12 years later, this queue to get in is a regular sight at Chesham Arms 😜🍺

2nd stop = Peters Brauhaus. The kölsch is fantastic, but I really came here for another gander at the wonderful ceiling.

Abbey Inn, Horsforth 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2nd visit on this ramble around outer Leeds' misfit pubs. Shows being unspoilt and characterful is not necessarily mutually inclusive. So much more potential. But staff are friendly and the location is lovely. Several cask lines, and social not foody!

Against the Grain, Stanningley 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2nd visit. Most enjoying the sun, but I've done that on the way here, so a cool indoors and Horsforth Hazy Pale is spot on. 3 cask + 6 keg. Stiegl Goldbrau lager. Often v busy on evenings due to lack of local competition. Growing on me 👍🍻

The Royal, Pudsey 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Beautiful ex Station hotel which hasn't lost its heritage elegance, though now a neighbourhood local. 3 cask lines from Yorkshire breweries. Bar gets very lively while the beautiful 'red room' adjacent is wonderful for reading or musing. 👍🍻

For those of you who live in or visit Hungary 🇭🇺 I recommend following this FB group 'Mutass egy kocsmát!' Perhaps the single best pubs-related Facebook group I've found. Great tips, an engaged community and diverse recommendations. Also includes some pubs elsewhere in Europe 👍

Out in Shipley/Saltaire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 this afternoon. Fox brilliant as usual, Cultures has a rare Czech 🇨🇿 beer on sidepull and Crafty Indian combines craft and modern Indian dishes. Despite a Desi Pub book inclusion I couldn't genuinely argue it is either a pub or a bar.

In 2 weeks time our next trip approaches!

The Tetley, Leeds 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1st visit since reopened by Kirkstall Brewery last week. Tetley's old head office. Has received K's usual treatment, eg. heritage Breweriana festooned on the walls. 6 cask lines, 8 craft keg, will be familiar to locals. Lots of outdoor seating for summer🍻👍

Work going on to get The Grove Inn, Leeds ready for a 30th May reopening. They promise a 'new look', which after an arson attack then major errors by the contractors (and the management) is kind of inevitable. Lots of pub heritage likely destroyed.

El Sindicat, Girona 🇪🇦 Last stop of the trip! An attractive bar in an old stone building but the layout somewhat restricts the atmosphere as capacity at the bar is minimal and the backroom is an overflow really. Barcelona prices, but a good range and friendly service 👍🍻

Bagels & Beer, Girona 🇪🇦 No focus on the former! Unapologetic craft template bar that may take you too far out of Girona culture with snooker on tv & Punk IPA on tap. A good Catalan range though. If I lived here I'd go a lot. Most ppl distracted by a family of Coypu outside. 👍🍻
