The institutions are the boycott target. Not artists. Artists have agency and the fact that this needs to be repeated over and over and over again is astounding. Does Sydney Festival believe that they programmed artists who cannot think for themselves? Extremely patronising.

The Sydney Festival chair David Kirk, former captain of the All Blacks rugby union team — a man who boycotted apartheid SA — was just on ABC Radio National claiming artists were bullied + pressured to withdraw. It’s completely untrue + they are trying really hard to make this stick
