European Union (EU) Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, is in Namibia this week to attend the Global African Hydrogen Summit -Global African Hydrogen Summit in Windhoek, which starts on Tuesday.

Starting the day with a very important meeting with representatives of Civil Society Organisations in #Namibia. Important to hear your views on the development of the green #hydrogen industry & #CriticalRawMaterials, which I believe will also create new, local & cleaner jobs.

I can assure you that one of the pillars of our recent MoU in energy is to promote the highest Environmental, Social & Governance standards. Any investment promoted by the #EU or EU companies will have to be subject to thorough Environmental & Social Impact Assessments.

Financing is key for the success of any venture. Green #hydrogen projects often still require the mobilisation of investment from both private & public sources & financial institutions. I met companies developing GH2 projects in 🇳🇦, to understand their opportunities & challenges.

Meeting with Hyphen Energy to exchange on their plans of developing #Namibia's first fully vertically integrated large scale #greenhydrogen project. It is expected to bring significant economic benefits, in addition to creating thousands of jobs during construction & operation.

During my visit to #Namibia, I also took the time to meet with #EU Ambassadors present in the country, as well as some non-resident diplomats that have come to Windhoek for the Africa Green Hydrogen Summit #GAH2S. A good moment to discuss the latest developments in 🇳🇦 & Brussels.

Concluding my participation at #GAH2S with an insightful ministerial panel exchanging on the #hydrogen industry’s next opportunities & challenges. It has been a successful Green Hydrogen Summit, full of meetings & discussions taking the sector forward both in Africa & globally.

Cssr Kadri Simson concluded her visit to 🇳🇦 by witnessing the signing of the landmark MOU between Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia & EIF_Namibia bringing solar power to 32 households in Swakop, part of TIDRET project supported by EU & BMZ. A big step forward in 🇳🇦’s renewable energy journey!
