Throughout the pandemic, the spread of misinformation has been significant. It can be difficult to decipher what is true these days. Scientific claim verification models are our path to credible news in the future. ODU CS REU #DisInfoREU2022
As part of NASA@ My Library project, my ODU team offered a STEM-themed workshop for kids today about the "life cycle of a massive star" and an "introduction to Python programming language". This gives a good idea of what I am working with in my research. I will be creating a dataset which contains generalized news articles to see how effective these models are at detecting scientific disinformation. #DisInfoREU2022 ODU CS REU
Do you know that Dr. Brunelle got his BS, MS and PhD all from ODU Computer Science and now a very accomplished Chief Scientist of Software Engineering Innovation Center MITRE. If you have any questions about Old Dominion University and awesome education opportunities here, he is your guy! WS-DL Group, ODU CS ODU College of Sciences
Congratulations to Ethan Landers to be in Dean's List for Spring 2022. He is in my team for NASA@ My Library project STARNet_Project and a current ODU NSF CS REU ODU CS REU program. x.com/ethanlanders_/… Looking forward to hearing about your future accomplishments. ODU Computer Science
SCIFACT is the dataset I am using for my current research. I am attempting to replicate scientific claim verification models like MULIVERS and ARSJOINT. SCIFACT is very helpful when it comes to testing these models and detecting disinformation. #DisInfoREU2022 ODU CS REU
Thanks to Ethan Landers Ethan Landers for the presentation. Thanks to Perry Memorial Library and Buffalo & Eric County Library for having us and organizing the in-person experience and also preparing bookmark activity kits.
Now, Ethan Landers is presenting “An Assessment of Scientific Claim Verification Frameworks” (mentor Jian Wu) ODU CS REU mid-summer presentations. The project attempts to detect misinformation in the scientific community, often hard to detect. WS-DL Group, ODU CS U.S. National Science Foundation ODU College of Sciences ODU Computer Science
The project attempts to replicate the results of scientific claim verification models and create a generalized dataset for testing them. We have Saad Hasnain Khan, Emily Escamilla , and Yasasi collaborating in the study. #disinformation
Early elementary kids were our audience for this workshop. We also had in-person activity to make Nebula jars for the curious kids Our ODU CS team: Cole Baty @cole_baty , Ethan Landers Ethan Landers, Maulahna Robinson MAULAHNA ROBINSON and me Faryaneh Poursardar STARNet_Project ODU Computer Science ODU College of Sciences
After replicating the metrics outputted by MULTIVERS model (which was fine-tuned using the SCIFACT dataset), I am now close to creating a generalized dataset which MULTIVERS can understand and analyze. My research is almost complete for ODU CS REU. #DisInfoREU2022
Now in ODU CS REU final presentations, Ethan Landers is presenting his project titled, “An Assessment of Scientific Claim Verification Frameworks”. In this work, he has used the state-of-the-art MultiVerS model with SciFact dataset. (His mentor Jian Wu) #oducsreu WS-DL Group, ODU CS
All REU students successfully "defended" their projects after 9 week's hard work with their mentors. Congratulations! Hope to see you in graduate school! WS-DL Group, ODU CS ODU Computer Science ODU CS REU ODU College of Sciences U.S. National Science Foundation
In this article, Haley Bragg Ethan Landers and Caleb Bradford describe their REU experiences. Great read!
