Traveling is valuable because it exposes you to unfamiliar environments, cultures and people. New experiences make you more resilient while sharpening your observational skills. It just so happens those are also great qualities for a founder.

Every year I make Easter baskets for the kids but this year my husband took the time to make one for me with my favorite sweets and some flowers. 💐 His simple surprise made me feel extra loved, seen, and appreciated today. The little things go a long way.

Tonight is my son’s prom. He’s confident and outgoing, whereas no one asked me to prom because I was weird and so dorky. I was obsessed with building GeoCities sites and felt comfier online vs real life. These days I’m grateful for all the ways being a late bloomer shaped me. 🌸

Me: “Maybe get a haircut for prom?” My 15yr old: “I can’t be tamed.”

The 1st of the month is great because that’s when investor updates arrive in my inbox and I get to live vicariously through founders I’ve backed.

Allow people to think negatively about you. It’s impossible to control anyone’s thoughts and the effort you put into worrying what other people think is a waste of time and energy. It’ll just stop you from doing what you want to do and who you want to be.

Had a debate with a decelerationist friend who thinks AI and robotics are stripping us of our humanity. This isn’t just a disagreement, it’s a clash of worldviews. I believe humans were made to build. We are toolmakers. That’s our defining trait. From language, fire and wheels

Visited my 80yr old mom for a few days. Met with a lawyer to become her power of attorney given her health declines in the last year. I no longer take for granted that there will always be a next time. The human body is so fragile.

Accomplishing tasks, even small ones, feels good.

How I feel when the meeting is someone just reading aloud what’s written on the slides

My mom (who is 80 but not dying) wants to pre-plan her end of life arrangements so I’ve been talking to funeral homes and perusing caskets. ⚰️ It’s a weird sales process with so many upsells. Had no idea it’s about $10k for an absolutely basic burial.

I woke up a little tired and grumpy but then I remembered I have a 2.6% fixed rate mortgage, and I’m feeling great again.

Founding a company is an act of radical optimism.

A friend told me she doesn’t post because she’s afraid of looking cringe. Not showing up is a losing strategy. The people you admire didn’t get to where they are by staying invisible. No one finds your work if you hide it. No one bets on you if they don’t know you exist.

I try to warn first time founders - raising too little means you won’t have a fighting chance because you can’t hire top talent quickly which then means you won’t build fast enough. Speed of execution matters.

How I feel when I get sent a meeting invite from Webex or Teams

No one is sweeter to me than my husband and kids, but also, nobody roasts me harder or more savagely. Internet trolls are no match for my own family.
