It’s more apparent to me post-PhD that despite the research content (though significant), the PhD essentially trains one to embrace rigour, transparency and diligence as fundamental to research. Such attitude is transferrable to any research context and is invaluable.

Sound sleep is not overrated. Staying up to do deep work was often preferable and feasible as a postgrad student since I could sleep in. That pattern is not applicable anymore 🥴

Grades signal other possibilities beyond academic ability and potential. But how do we track and incorporate these different factors into the evaluation criteria? What constitutes a fair assessment? And when should what a student’s grade say about their circumstances matter more?

Teachers can have positive impact, one child at a time. Having that one teacher who believes in that one child and expects them to succeed can make all the difference. Excited to share my research and to hear teachers' perspectives on supporting adolescents’ well-being.

Pleased to have contributed to this call advocating the value of a competency-based curriculum and assessment system, particularly at secondary school that combines students’ subject knowledge with an understanding of how it develops them as individuals not just test-takers.
