'Clair de lune.' (1895) Relatively unknown today, Charles-Victor Guilloux exhibited his paintings at the Salon alongside Paul Gauguin and the Nabis artists. A reviewer praised his contribution as ‘A magnificent series of landscapes sent in by an unknown who is a master.'

Georges Seurat's painting depicts a farmer in his fields; it belongs to a series of small-scale paintings on panels or ‘croquetons’ as Seurat called them. This was painted two before 'Grande Jatte,' his magnum opus in 1885, at the age of 25.

Speaking of the drop off in reading, I CANNOT believe that in 2025 my niece’s set texts for the already reading for pleasure-killing GCSE torture tests were Of Mice and Men and An Inspector Calls. Literally as if eighty years of culture has not happened. Insane and so so dumb.

Cuban painter Tomás Sánchez’s serene idyll of a verdant tree-island surrounded by still waters is almost meditative (Aislarse, 2001). If you contemplate this long enough, you may notice the tiny figure of a man standing at the near-edge of the forest

'Morning Light,' (1916) is considered by many to be Elioth Gruner's masterpiece of his wartime pastorals. Enveloping light, technical brilliance, and pictorial perfection are the hallmarks of the best of his work.
