We condemn Sotheby's auction of the Piprahwa gems, taken from one of the burial sites of Buddha's cremated remains. The gems and ashes were excavated by the British engineer Peppé in 1898, in an act of desecration. Peppé's descendants are now selling them. theguardian.com/world/2025/may…
