If you have to earn it, it’s not love. If it requires you silencing yourself, it’s not respect. If it costs you your health, it’s not worth it. There is one shot at this life and it’s meant to be lived with those who love seeing you loved.

It’s unfortunate how many quality people feel like they have to prove that they’re good people-not because of things they’ve done but because of things that were done to them. This is the lasting impact of shame and trauma to a gentle soul.

Your health will trigger those who are unhealthy. Your wellness will provoke those who are not well. Your honesty will always get a reaction from people who are dishonest. The quickest way to see this, is when you attempt to be vulnerable, and they point you to doubt and shame.

I don’t care if it was a hurt person who hurt another person. I care about what they did next to show they are sorry.

Posts about trauma (especially childhood) are not for me to gain sympathy. I want survivors of any kind of abuse, people dealing with trauma, to know they have worth and that they don’t have to feel small. Healing is not an overnight fix. It takes time. Just know you are enough.

Healing takes time, love, understanding. And having someone who will listen and embrace you through the healing is important.

You can forgive a person who wounded you without having to reconcile. Forgiveness is for you because it is about being able to receive God’s forgiveness for your own missteps. Choosing to reconcile or disassociate depends on whether you want to be associated with the person.

And remember, family is chosen by love, and many other things, including empathy, compassion, integrity, ethics, and a desire to be with the people you and they enjoy the most.
