I wrote a Handelsblatt column on why reformed EU fiscal rules are set to underestimate the negative growth effects of fiscal consolidation, so that public debt ratios may turn out higher than expected. Based on our previous study on Debt Sustainability Analysis in EU fiscal rules

It's still incredible that other EU countries continue to tolerate Ireland's "beggar-thy-neighbour" corporate tax haven. The corporate tax revenue that allows for the Irish budget surplus implies revenue losses in other EU countries. x.com/livfletcher_/s…

May I add a broader perspective after having listen to Macron’s opening and discussion with RΓΆller and Stephanie Flanders at the Berlin Global Dialogue: It’s rare to hear a head of state lay out the challenges, and prescribe the preferred responses as persuasively as Macron

I question this report. I was at the Berlin Global Dialogue as well, including at Macron’s session. He characterised the disagreement with Germany on EV tariffs as just one small issue, and proceeded to list a host of grander issues on which they agree. (And Scholz wasn’t there)

For someone as concerned about fiscal deficits and debt I’m impressed by ur unqualified statement about relative growth And I’m impressed by ur conviction about simple but grand solutions to whatever you spot on the headline numbers I suggest taking a look at the Draghi report
