In athletic development, not many pre-puberty achievements matter. Global movement competency foundation and injury history do matter, though. Play multiple sports, experience a wide variety of stimuli, and don't get hurt. Specific adaptations come later.

🎯🎯🎯 Early specialization + inadequate rest = 🤕 more acute injuries 🤕 more chronic injuries 🤕 more burnout And we see plenty of “high level” teen athletes (play 1 sport 24/7/365) that keep getting hurt bc they don’t know how to move! PRiSM Society POSNA

I don't like the "take a complete month off" recommendation for athletes at season's end. Training shouldn't be an "all in" or "all out" decision; there are levels of involvement, and the lowest tiers can be impactful. Pick low hanging fruit in the first month of the offseason.

With September upon us and summer ball having wrapped up, players, parents, and coaches are working through the age-old question: should pitchers take time off from throwing? Here are my thoughts: ericcressey.com/csp-elite-base…
