Wow pretty harsh comment from Israel guest while optimistic comments from the other guest. What a show! Thanks ⁦Eric Olander⁩ podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

This episode was really interesting especially what Eric Olander had to say at the end about Washington having lost its nuance on China issues open.spotify.com/episode/2rA7DW…

In our Carnegie Africa Program newsletter for July, we examine the top global destinations for higher ed. for African students. In 2020, France hosted approx. 126,000 African students, followed by China with 81,500 students, and the U.S. with 48,000. More here: carnegieendowment.org/2023/07/13/wha…

Joseph Wong Joe - Given interest, sharing a great The China-Global South Project p’cast on Africa/China/Russia & related topics. To my mind, Cobus van Staden & Eric Olander (+ Kaiser Kuo) have some of the most critical, evidence-based reporting out there on #GlobalSouth & #Africa. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the…

These articles are misleading at best. The Pew survey's 24 countries, while damning of China's efforts, only convey part of the story. Other polls in the Global South, such as the Afrobarometer & Arab Barometer, show that China is seen favorably, in fact, even more so than the US

The latest Arab Youth Survey reveals a stunning figure that almost half of all young people in North Africa want to leave their countries with the UK, France, Germany, Canada and the U.S. as the top destinations.

This episode of the China in Africa Podcast from Eric Olander and Cobus van Staden is just outstanding. Emmanuel Matambo 🇿🇲🇿🇦 is brilliant — and make sure to listen to the very end, about the S. African singer who killed it on a Chinese singing contest! thechinaproject.com/podcast/brics-…

It's remarkable to think how much money the US State Department spends on training its diplomats and yet they still don't get that showing the soles of your shoes in the direction of your host is considered quite disrespectful in most countries. How come they don't get this?

A very strong overview of BRI at ten years from Lili Pike, quite a contrast with most of the US coverage. What a difference it makes drawing on experts like Becky Ray, Christoph Nedopil Wang, Eric Olander instead of pandering to great power fixations. foreignpolicy.com/2023/10/19/chi…

When will someone teach U.S. diplomats that it is extremely disrespectful in Asia and many other regions to show the bottom of one's shoes during meetings with VIPs? Both feet should be planted firmly on the floor. Period.

So, the US ambassador to Singapore wears jeans, a t-shirt, and no tie to a meeting with the Prime Minister. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. What's worse is that he THINKS he looks cool. 😂

🎉Thank you Eric Olander and Cobus van Staden for a great discussion on labour relations in Sino-African construction sites. The podcast is based on the chapter I wrote with Mandira Bagwandeen, based on my ethnography in Lamu Port construction site in Kenya ⏬chinaglobalsouth.com/podcasts/labor…

Maybe it's just me, but some of the language in the White House's new "Nairobi-Washington Vision" statement on debt relief sounds extremely patronizing. It sounds like "high ambition" means if 'you do what we ask you to do, then you'll get the money': tinyurl.com/23j4nj6e
