culture is not an excuse for abuse. hitting your children is wrong regardless of culture, race and ethnicity. it's become normalized & 'physically disciplining' your children is associated with POC parenting, especially asian parenting. the victims don't even see it as abuse 1/3

they make fun of gentle parenting, calling it 'white people parenting'. as if treating your child with basic respect and kindness is somehow shameful. 'my parents used to hit me all the time and i turned out fine' no you didn't. statements like these just perpetuate the cycle 2/3

and install the belief in these children that somehow their abuse is less valid because of the race they were born as. it's not like the media helps either. memes about asian parents hitting their kids are everywhere. physical abuse of asian children been made into a joke. 3/3
