Update on AR 4274: not seeing any significant improvement - the active region remains quite large, but the structure is not all that impressive. The leader and trailing parts have clearly separated with very little penumbral and umbral area in between. The trailing part is not

We've got a beautiful, symmetrical, in-our-face full halo CME from today's X1.2 flare. Check it out here: swpc.noaa.gov/products/ccor-…

Here we go! NOAA has just announced a strong geomagnetic storm forecast for Tuesday night due to a couple solar storms heading towards Earth. If these solar storms or CMEs do impact, we could see the auroral ovals extend to lower latitudes and during activity flare-ups called

I have never seen the Bz below -60 nT. This is one of the lowest recorded values in the last twenty years if not the lowest. G4-G5 storming is entirely possible if these conditions can sustain. The aurora will now quickly react to this pressure pulse. Get ready! Webcams will be

Here is another video update from us here at SWPC as the final CME has arrived. Hopefully these help, please let us know if you find them useful and we'll see what we can do for future events. Stay space weather aware at spaceweather.gov

Over the past year, France has experienced 278 days above the norm! 🔥📈 With lengthy heatwaves between +5 and +10°C! 🥵 And some people will say that ONE DAY at -5.6°C below the norm will balance everything out! 🤡

How big is AR 4294? Here is a comparison between: #1 - AR 4294 right now, #2 - AR 4274 as it rotated into view on Nov 2nd, just before beginning the big X-class flare barrage and #3 - AR 3664 on May 12th, 2024 as it approached the W limb. I suppose AR 3664 and its flare history

A detailed look at AR 4294 shows a true behemoth forming. Its size is already around ~2300 MSH, closing in on AR 3664’s 2400 MSH peak (May 2024). It’s still expanding, with new spots emerging from behind the limb. Eyes on this giant!

Despite the massive region (which actually has been split into two designations, 4294 and 4296) rotating into view, it's a little quiet. We've had a few rises/flares that have approached M level but it's been around 22 hours since we've had an actual M flare. Not to worry
