Perspective: Lithium we mine today and that we'll need to mine by 2050 compared to other major mined materials today like Iron, Aluminum, and Copper. Measured in kilotonnes. Great visual.

An excellent overview of how Iceland tries to insure its people from natural disaster, and how the displaced residents of Grindavik are being treated. youtube.com/watch?v=F_Xt_F…

Privatisation in a nutshell: Steal from us something we own. Sell us back an inferior service at a higher price. The most obvious example is the railways. But the pattern is the same everywhere else: the NHS, public services, council services…

I don't think people appreciate the dimensions solar is improving in. Conversion efficiency isn't the full story. Yes, conversion efficiency doubled (~10% -> 20%) in the last 20 years, but silicon use per watt fell by 87%! (16g/W -> 2g/W) Longi now has cells that use just half

It's really important to remember every time you read a right-wing commentator claiming the NHS model has failed and needs to be ripped up that it was at its peak of success and popularity just 14 years ago.

Whenever people frame climate science as a debate between mainstream science (who agree on everything) and "skeptics" (who are challenging things), a gentle reminder that it is mainstream science that is skeptical in a way that iterates on understanding and advances knowledge

#Venezuela has officially lost its last glacier after La Corona glacier on Humboldt peak, 4,900 meters above sea level, became too small to be classed as a #glacier. This makes Venezuela the first country in the Andes mountain range to lose all its glaciers.

Just add the 4.4 billion metric tonnes of crude oil to this and you'd understand how much mining isn't even in the same league as oil extraction. It's also worth remembering that we don't really set fire to the stuff we mine, and it can normally be recycled or reused. Burnt

Therapy can only do so much if you’re not able to get your basic needs met. Mental health is affordable housing. Mental health is free healthcare. Mental health is free education. Mental health is food security. Mental health is financial stability. Therapy can’t fix the system.

Let’s get something straight about fossil fuel phase-out: renewables needn’t replace all the coal, oil and gas we use today bc most of it is just used to produce and move those fossil fuels around! We only need to replace the useful energy: 37% of what we currently produce 🫨🧵
