Latest hot take on choosing a postdoc lab: consider the available cores. Maybe controversial, but given how much I’ve been able to learn & grow as a microscopist thanks to NIC@HMS (now CITE), I’m willing to stand by those words. Just feeling very grateful for them 🥹.

There are a lot of really interesting things to learn in this article: how many jurisdictions have a different misdemeanor prosecutor, how many delay proceedings for misd cases, and that at UT not a single arrest had sufficient probable cause theappeal.org/we-asked-prose…

Seeking someone looking for a two-year postbac position to get my group up and running at Yale University! We will be utilizing chromatin tracing and other multiplexed imaging approaches to study the relationship between 3D genome organization and epigenetic memory in embryos!

this means a few things:
- students and allies are not facing the police forces of the past. they are facing militaries. enduring war/like tactics of repression & violence.

- arrests give these militaries access to your biological data. your fingerprints, unmasked faces… 4/n

Time and time again we have seen civilians die at the hands of power hungry cops. Each of us has the right to express concern if we see a person whose safety is in question because of police violence. A cop attacked a woman who posed no threat. He shouldn’t have a badge.

SHAME on Emory, Fenves and all those who stand against the liberation of Palestinians. The violence that APD and Emory and Emory police have and plan to continue to do is abhorrent. They claim it is outsiders. What they don’t show is our own students and professors being hurt!!

This is where I see the pay increase as a big win. I’ve see a lot of departments/uni’s use those stipend levels as caps for what students and postdocs can be paid. It will be a lot harder for them to justify setting a paycap that’s below NRSA levels.

Shout out to the PIs leading labs at primarily undergrad institutions where undergrads in the lab is the norm.

Makes me grateful for my time at San José State University with Katie Wilkinson, who has now helped more undergrads achieve their goals than I can keep track of!

One of my biggest motivations for wanting to start a lab in an engineering dept is access to engineering undergrads who want to do a senior thesis project. It was the highlight of my undergrad experience & I can see a lot of places where engineering undergrads can contribute.

PhD survival tip: setup a research calendar & use color coded time blocking for all the things. Not just for productivity, but for when you need to retrace your steps from two years ago 😬. Your future self with thank you.

I love it when I read a statement in a paper and immediately know the reference. It’s like getting a Jeopardy question right.
