Last week I visited colleagues from the Czech Academy of Sciences Institute of Geophysics in Prague to present my work on tectonic modelling and natural H2 at GFZ. It was great to meet the researchers, and to have a look at the Waxy Earth Lab in Prague headed by Prokop Zavada😃 (1/5)

Prokop Zavada and his colleagues at @tectolabpraguehave have developed various cool devices for the simulation of tectonic processes. For instance, they use gelatin and a shear-box to study strike-slip fault evolution, where faults are highlighted through polarised light. (2/5)

But the main focus in Prague is the simulation of thermal processes such as (partial) melting & their impact on tectonic deformation, through the use of wax and ingenious (home-made) heating systems and deformation devices (e.g. doi.org/10.3389/feart.…). Really cool stuff!😃(3/5)
