Yale has announced an across-the-board raise for postdocs, with salaries for 1st year postdocs starting at $65,000. Plus, the administration is giving PIs extra funding (for one year) to cover funding gaps due to the new policy. Seems like a good step! provost.yale.edu/news/postdocto…

Recent data by Park et al. suggests that Vir1p, the #yeast homolog of virilizer, is required for cells to initiate the meiotic program and for progression through the meiotic divisions and spore formation. #GENETICS | Zac Park | bit.ly/3Jh2JBx

Excited this work is fully published! Key takeaway: yeast are using a complex that is more similar than previously thought to that of other eukaryotes (including humans) to methylate their mRNA!

Dear friends who write NSF GRFP rec letters, this year rec letters are due BEFORE the applications, so about 10 days earlier than normal on Oct. 11. Please don't let NSF's deadline change on rec letters screw over the applicants in your lives.
