Congratulations The George Institute for Global Health Xuejun Yin on successful completion of her PhD degree. Her thesis contained a mixture of quantitative and qualitative studies, to provide evidence for salt substitute as a population intervention to reduce the risk of CVDs. Amazing work done!

#SSaSS found a salt substitute reduced CVD and death by 12-14% compared to regular salt. How much regular salt replaced with salt substitute can achieve such health benefits? Our new paper answered this question. Bruce Neal Maoyi Tian The George Institute for Global Health ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/HY…

Eating too much salt is one of the top risk factors for heart disease, stroke, and death. WHO’s first global report on sodium intake reduction shows only 5% of WHO Member States are protected by mandatory and comprehensive sodium reduction policies👉bit.ly/3l0h24K

Thanks for the editorial commentary on our recent study about the use of potassium-enriched salt in SSaSS trial. On top of reducing sodium intake, the potential effect of potassium salt substitute on population potassium intake should not be neglected.

It’s been a shame that The George Institute for Global Health PhD graduates Xuejun Yin and Pengpeng Ye couldn’t attend their graduation ceremony in person. We held a mini ceremony in Beijing wearing my UNSW gown - last time use was 12 years ago at my PhD ceremony @rebeccaivers Lisa Keay
